Frequently asked questions

Here are our answers to some of the questions we get asked the most. If you have a question that we did not answer, reach out to us.

  • Will my shed by cyclone-rated and engineered?

Not all sheds have to be cyclone-rated and engineered. However, your contractor should ask some qualifying questions to ensure your shed is built to proper codes, site conditions and standards. Your environment and location will determine the rating your shed will need to be based on the AS1170.2 code. Any shed built should come with certified engineering showing the parameters used to determine its rating.

  • Do steel sheds come with warranties?

The manufacturer’s warranties cover prefabricated sheds. Most steel buildings are constructed from high-quality materials from trustworthy and dependable companies like BlueScope and Colorbond.

The QBCC home warranty insurance should cover sheds built outside of a manufacturing plant. For more information on this, check out the QBCC website to see what is covered, how much you should pay and how long the insurance lasts.

  • How long will it take for a steel shed to be delivered?

In most cases, time from order to delivery is around four weeks. That can vary greatly depending on the size and design of your shed. If you have a large shed, the time can double. If you have a time-sensitive project, you should make those concerns known to the steel shed manufacturer or distributor upfront.

  • How long should a steel shed take to build?

While there is no set timeline, most projects take around two to four weeks to complete. There are a lot of contracts and approvals that have to be gathered, sourcing the materials, build time and delivery contracts and timelines. If you don’t have a concrete slab, this could extend the timeline as well.

If you have non-standard requests or needs, the timeline can double. In some cases, companies have been known to install the steels sheds without approvals; this is not recommended and could be costly.

  • Will payment terms be following QLD legislation?

The company you purchase from should not do anything outside of QLD legislation regarding payment terms. Payment terms depend on the purchase type—prefabricated versus kit-only purchases.

Building projects have staged progress payments that are controlled by the Building and Construction Commission Act. The laws defined by the BCCA give the purchaser (you) protection from builders who overcharge for work beforehand. That helps to ensure the relevant work is completed.

Kit-only purchases are considered a retail transaction and not governed the same way as a building project.

  • What colours are available?

This depends on the company you are working with. Most steel companies trust Colorbond for their sheeting. They have a wide array of colours to choose from. To see their full selection, check out their website at: http://colorbond.com/colour.
